Some foods aggravate and exasperate acne…. Foods you should be avoiding if you are acne prone;
DAIRY – has converted male hormones so it increases sebum and will increase clogging. Dairy and acne are scientifically linked and proven it aggravates acne. This includes whey protein.
PEA PROTEIN – It’s not the peas themselves that is harmful to acne sufferers but the preservation process in which they go through that puts this particular protein on the no-no list.
FAST FOOD – contains saturated fat which again increases sebum and it can be trapped inside the pore.
COCOA/CACAO – Studies have shown this can increase acne.
SUGAR – increases Interleukin-1 which is known to aggravate acne
FOODS HIGH IN IODINE – If you eat high amounts of sushi, wheatgrass or spirulina this can cause an acne eruption as well.
FERMENTED FOODS – are high in histamine and histamine causes sebum leading to acne. This sadly also includes kombucha.
Other foods include peanuts, dates.
Food allergies can be another cause for acne breakouts. If you suspect your skin issues could be internally related you may need to get tested or follow an elimination diet with a Naturopath or Dietitian to ensure this is not one of the contributing factors to your acne.
